El Valle
Just a 20-25 minute drive from Playa Blanca, Anton Valley is nestled in the crater of the largest dormant volcano in South America. Visitors can marvel at the rare golden frogs that live in the lush jungle of square-shaped trees. For those looking for an adventure, rides above the jungle's canopy on a zipline are available. The ride offers a bird's-eye view of the jungle, the mountain and the waterfall El Chorro Macho.
Visitors who prefer to stay on the ground will enjoy ancient stone petroglyphs, which were carved by Indians long ago and whose meaning is still lost to the modern world. Guides are available to lead visitors through the mountain and jungle trails. There is also the opportunity to rent horses to take on the trails.
Perhaps one of El Valle's most famous trademarks is its handicrafts market on Avenida Central. Shoppers can find exotic flowers, vegetables, fruits and handcrafts, sold by the Ngobe Bugle, Embera and Wounaan Indians.
